Anorak Hour Nr 358 b/c 4th May 2003 This week's show starts with the third installment of the Kenny Everett Story which goes back to the time he joined the BBC.
Next, there's a sample of overnight radio from the '80s. Paul Vincent talks to Dublin on Sunshine Radio. Then the show goes West again, this week's ILR sample is Clare FM. The Anorak Hour goes even further west for the next clip - Stateside with Power 95 WPLJ's rebranding in 1989. Pete Reed appears next with some radio news, this time in archive form in a Coast FM recording with Barry Dunne. Next, back to Sunshine Radio and some Sunday afternoon output with Dave Lyons on air in 1983. Then, the one and only Rick Dees with his Weekly Top 40 countdown show, which is the final archive recording this week. The show finishes with this week's news presented by Pete Reed. Anorak Hour Nr 359 b/c 11th May 2003 Anorak Hour 359 starts with the final part of the Kenny Everett Story, and this is followed by some archive BBC recordings which perfectly illustrate his genius.
Next, the programme returns to New York for a recording of Z100 from the same time period as last week's recording featuring Power 95FM from the area. Then the digital age comes to the Anorak Hour in the shape of Phil Jupitas on BBC6 Music, one of the BBC's digital-only channels. Back in time to January 1987 next for a recording of Colm Kayes serving up Energy Breakfast. From the same day, there's a recording of Dave C presenting his show on Boyneside Radio. The show finishes with this week's news presented by Pete Reed. Anorak Hour Nr 360 b/c 18th May 2003 20 years ago today Irish radio was in a state of shock following raids on Radio Nova and Sunshine Radio, and the subsequent voluntary closure of Nova. Experience those incredible moments (again) with this anniversary special.
Then, the latest news is presented by Pete Reed. Anorak Hour Nr 361 b/c 25th May 2003 Understandably, in light of the events of the past week, this week's show was the last on FM for the forseeable future.
It starts with a look at the aftermath of the 1983 raids as featured on last week's show. From the same year, next there's a recording of Andy Archer during his time at Radio Nova. Then, on the topic of raids and Andy Archer, the next recording features both at offshore pirate RNI, when they were receiving the 'treatment'. Next, there's a sample of some of Sean Caldwell's voiceover work. New York's Z100 is featured again in the next archive clip. Finally Ger and Pete try to make sense of the week's events. |
