FEBRUARY 2003
Anorak Hour Nr 345 b/c 2nd February 2003

On this week's show, 98FM's Fugitive makes an appearance. The competition which was developed by Australian station 2Day FM is now running on Dublin's 98FM. This recording looks back to May 2001 when the competition was at its peak.

The next recording features Mark Byrne and David Baker on air for Radio 257 in Clontarf back in 1983.

One of those presenters, David Baker, is still on air in London, but will be back on Dublin radio this week for a one-off special on Premier FM. David joins Ger for a studio chat in the next section of the show.

Ship-based piracy is featured in the next two sections of the Archive part of the programme.
First, the infamous Eurosiege is remembered with recordings of Charlie Wolfe from the MV Communicator for Laser 558.
And then there's a detailed look at Scarborough station Radio 270 which is the focus of an upcoming movie.

A short snippet from Dublin's new Ice FM is the final recording before Pete Reed looks at this week's news.

Anorak Hour Nr 346 b/c 9th February 2003

This week, dating back to September 1997 there's a sample of Chris Young on Pulse 103FM and this is followed by some up-to-date output from Chris who these days can be heard on Sun 101FM.

Next, across the water to Boston and a sample from 1997 of the slick oldies presentation of The Eagle - WEGQ 93.7.

The pirate beginnings of legal Dublin Community-style radio is next on the agenda, with the opening programme from the licenced DSCR - now Dublin South FM - from 1995, followed by a sample from pre-licenced days back in 1988.

Then to 1989, and KFM - an unsuccessful community radio station is featured.

Into the 90s for the next clip which features the final moments of dance music radio station Sunset FM. One of the presenters, Andy Preston, is now with FM104 from which there's also a short sample. An interview with Sunset station founder Gary Cruze is also featured.

The last recording this week is in the form of an airing for Radio Caroline's theme tune.

Finally in the show, Pete Reed looks at this week's news.

Anorak Hour Nr 347 b/c 16th February 2003

On this week's show, first we take a trip to Cork for a sample of Power FM from March 2000 broadcasting on 94.7MHz.

The original Energy 94FM closed down on this day one year ago. To mark the anniversary, there are various clips from the station's last day on air.

Back in time to the 80s for the next clip which features Gerry jones and his phone-in show on Radio Dublin.

Following that there's an early interview with Sunshine boss Robbie Dale, who explained the loophole in Irish law that allowed for so many pirate stations to broadcast.

And then there's some early MW-only output from Sunshine Radio featuring Declan Meehan, Siobhan Walls reading news, and Tom Hardy.

The UK offshore scene is featured next with Carl Mitchell on air for RNI at the time of the jamming against the station.

Finally in the show, Pete Reed looks at this week's news.

Anorak Hour Nr 348 b/c 23rd February 2003

To start this week's show, more studio quality airchecks from long-wave station Atlantic 252.

Then there's an airing for Joe Duffy's phone-in show during the week which featured callers discussing the controversial licence appication for north-west station Ocean FM which insulted listeners of the incumbent, NWR.

Free radio in the United States is explored next on the show in the shape of a studio interview with Jeff Burgess of Radio Free Bakersfield.

A clip from Suzanne Duffy's Giveaway Show on 2FM from March 1998 is next on the programme.

Then we go back even further in time to 1985. Featured are a series of reports from the time Laser 558 finally went off the air.

Finally, before this week's news with Pete Reed, there's an airing for a Radio Caroline theme tune, 'A Touch of Velvet'.
