OCTOBER 2002
Anorak Hour Nr 328 b/c 6th October 2002

First this week there's an airing for a famous Irish radio signature tune, as heard on an item last week.
Greg Gaughran, during his time with Radio Nova in the mid-80s, is sampled next.
This is followed by Pat Courtenay (with Mark Byrne & David Dennehy) on Sunshine 101 in 1986.
There's a cd compilation of Radio Anorak items up for grabs with a special Anorak Hour competition - listen for details on how to enter.
Patrick's Day 1997 was launch day at Radio Ireland (now Today FM) and Cliona ni Bhuachalla is featured on air. A special one-off Scrap Saturday was commissioned for the station's launch - the next item features a sample.
Nails Mahoney is sampled during the Sunshine Be Bop Gold era in the next item. He is now on afternoon duties with 98FM - from where there's also a recent sample.
Finally (ish) in the archives section...the last ever Howth tram!
Then, a quick sample of the jingles available on the competition cd is played.
As usual, the show finishes with a look at this week's news.

Anorak Hour Nr 329 b/c 13th October 2002

First up this week is a recording of mainstream Canadian radio from Toronto...from January 1997, Mix 99.9 is sampled.
A recording from medium wave pirate Radio City from the early eighties featuring Al Dunne is featured next. Al is sampled in an interview in which he outlines the history of the station.
The winner of last week's competition is announced next, and some worthy overseas listeners are given a mention.
News is that a recording of Pete Reed on Phantom FM's forerunner Coast 105FM from 1996 can be heard next on the show.
Eamon Dunphy announced his retirement from Today FM on Friday night so, not surprisngly, he is sampled next at the time he returned to 'The Last Word' following this summer's Roy Keane controversy. Next day he appeared on his by now almost regular chat about about the Roy affair on the Gerry Ryan show. Here, he is heard talking about the death of his long-term friendship with Johnny Giles.
Last up, Dublin's Country. With an announcement on the station's future due from the BCI this week, the programme samples some of the voices from its year on air. And then, an airing for Dave Harvey's interview on The Last Word' at launch.
No Pete Reed, so Ger takes us on a run through this week's radio news before a final 'Last Word'.

Anorak Hour Nr 330 b/c 20th October 2002

This week's show starts off with a look at the recently-raided Kiss FM from Wexford. The Anorak Hour crew visited the station in June 1998, and in this recording station owner Leigh Doyle talks to Pete Reed.
Next, Leon Tippler looks back affectionately at RTÉ's sponsored programming.
Radio Kilkenny, 'legally' on air for twelve years, has lost its licence. But, in this recording from 1981, the station's pirate past - as Kilkenny Community Radio - is sampled.
From Swords (a Dublin suburb) KELO Radio from 1981 with Dave Kelly - now General Manager at FM104 - on air, is featured next.
Then, a feature on Heartbeat FM, who closed in December 1988. There are two recordings from the final days on air.
David Baker was one of the voices heard on Heartbeat's final day. The next recording features an interview with him in 2000 when he was at Chelmer FM in Essex.
Finally, two of the original Heartbeat founders in an earlier guise - on Radio City in 1980.
Finally, this week's news is presented by Pete Reed.

Anorak Hour Nr 331 b/c 27th October 2002

This week's show starts with a music request in the form of the recently aired Phantom 'BCI Mix' of a Waylon Jennings song.
Next Pat Courtenay, one of Ireland's favourite adopted sons of the 80s & 90s, is featured in modern times both on breakfast at Hot 100 from Darwin in Australia and doing Drive in his native New Zealand on Classic Hits. The recording includes satirical references to the New Zealand Olympic Equestrian, Mark Todd, who'd been caught having cocaine-fuelled gay sex in a horse-box in England!
Then, another old favourite who has received a lot of exposure recently - Tony Blackburn, featured here on his first ever BBC Radio 1 show, on the station's first day of broadcast back in 1967.
This is followed by the 'Elder Statesmen' - some of BBC Radio 1's voices through the years.
The enduringly popular 80s superpirate Energy 103FM is featured next, with a recording of Gerry Stevens on air in December 1986.
A recording from another Dublin-based Energy, presently on in Dublin on 94.1MHz, finishes the archive section.
Finally, Pete Reed looks at this week's news.
