AUGUST 2002
Anorak Hour Nr 319 b/c 4th August 2002

This week's show has a heavy shortwave and satellite bias with all of the recordings from stations originating in the UK.
First up, WNKR - an early 90s SW station from the UK - present an international DX news bulletin.
Mentioned on WNKR's news was Chris Carey's satellite Radio Nova service which was available on 94.9FM in Dublin. A recording off-air from here in Dublin is featured next.
When Carey closed Nova, he offered use of the satellite space to Radio Caroline, but had his own ideas about the running of the station! A fascinating on-air debate was followed by Carey prematurely closing the satellite service. Part of that debate is sampled next.
Jack Russell, who operates from Scotland on the SW band, visited Dublin in May 2000 and dropped into Phantom's studios for a chat. An extract is presented here.
Finally, from London in 1985, Skyline Radio on FM is sampled.
Then, Pete Reed presents this week's news.

Anorak Hour Nr 320 b/c 11th August 2002

This show featured Wicklow dance pirate Storm FM, formally Bandit FM, who broadcast on 105.2MHz.
Next, from July 1986, Cork piracy in the shape of WBEN, with a clip of Nick Richards on air.
Then, up the coast to Galway, and Coast 103FM from December 1988 is featured with another presenter with an offshore past, Keith York, on air.
From October 1990, Radio Dublin's Joe Doyle is featured in conversation with Anoraks Ireland talking about the mass station closure of 1988.
The final archive file looks at BBC Radio 1 in the early 90s during a time of major change.
Pete Reed then presents this week's news.

Anorak Hour Nr 321 b/c 18th August 2002

Listeners' requests featured heavily on this week's show, firstly with a question about a famous Radio Nova backing track.
Radio Carousel remained defiant during the May '83 raids, and this extract features the station still on air when most around them had closed.
Long-running 90s Dun Laoghaire pirate Hits 106 is sampled next with Paul Murray on air with his Sunday afternoon oldies show in March 1999.
Then, the ever-popular Jason Maine is featured with an early Radio Nova recording.
Finally, Joe Doyle on Radio Dublin with the Free Radio News programme from December 1990.
Pete Reed then presents this week's news.

Anorak Hour Nr 322 b/c 25th August 2002

More listeners' requests this week, starting with an airing for Radio Dublin's theme tune and some jingles.
With American shock-jocks very much in the news, a clip from the Howard Stern Show is a timely feature.
A journey through some of Sunshine Radio's most notable moments is next with clips from 1983, 1984 & the final day in 1988. Ten years after that December 1988 closedown, Ger Roe interviewed Robbie Dale at a station reunion. This is also featured here.
Radio Nova's Easy Listening spin-off Magic 103 is then featured from April 1985 with a clip of Mark Weller - 'Today' known as Mark Costigan - on air.
Pete Reed then presents this week's news.
